Bangkok airport among world’s 10 busiest international hubs for first time

Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi Airport has joined the list of world’s 10 busiest international hubs for the first time this month, according to British aviation firm OAG.

Bangkok’s main airport is projected to handle 2.76 million international passengers in October, up 4% from a year earlier, placing it 10th on the list.

Dubai International Airport ranked first with 4.57 million passengers, down 15% year-on-year, followed by London Heathrow with 4.12 million, a 2% decline, and Seoul Incheon Airport with 3.94 million, up 6%.

According to Airports of Thailand, Suvarnabhumi handles around 1,050 flights daily, with traffic rising during major holiday periods such as Songkran. The busiest arrival periods are typically 9-11 a.m. and 4-7 p.m., Bangkok Post reported.

Passenger traffic is forecast to continue growing, with the airport expected to serve about 65 million travelers in 2026, 26% more than last year.

The number is projected to rise to 73 million by 2029.

Thailand’s capital Bangkok was named the world’s best city in this year’s Readers’ Choice Awards by British travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller.
