ICC took strict action against Bangladeshi captain Nigar Sultana, showing anger in the match against Sri Lanka was costly.
Bangladesh Women Cricket Captain: Bangladesh women’s cricket team captain Nigar Sultana has been officially reprimanded by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for violating Level-1 of the code of conduct prescribed for players and support staff.
This entire incident happened during the third T20 match played between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Saturday in Sylhet. Sultana has been accused of violating ICC Article 2.2, which deals with the misuse of cricket equipment, clothing or grounds during an international match.
Bat thrown on the ground after getting out
This incident happened during Bangladesh’s batting, when captain Nigar Sultana looked extremely disappointed and angry after being out. He threw his bat on the ground in anger before returning towards the pavilion. The ICC considered his action against the spirit of the game. Along with this formal reprimand, one demerit point has also been added to Nigar Sultana’s disciplinary record. This is the first crime committed by Nigar Sultana in the last 24 months.
Admitted his mistake to the match referee
The ICC said in an official statement released on Monday that Bangladeshi captain Nigar Sultana has accepted his mistake. She accepted the punishment proposed by Supriya Rani Das, a member of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, with no further formal hearing required in the matter. These allegations were made by on-field umpires Alois Sheridan and Sathira Zakir JC, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Champa Chakma.

What does ICC’s demerit point rule say?
Under ICC rules, a Level 1 breach carries a minimum punishment of an official reprimand and a maximum fine of 50 per cent of the player’s match fee. Along with this, one or two demerit points are also given. This demerit point remains recorded in the player’s record for 24 months.
If a player receives four or more demerit points during this period, it is converted into suspension points. This means that the player can be banned for one Test, two ODIs or two T20 matches. It is noteworthy that on this tour, Sri Lanka has defeated Bangladesh 2-1 in ODI and 3-0 in the T20 series.
