New Delhi: Efforts to increase trade between India and Bangladesh seem to be intensifying. Let us tell you, Bangladesh has appealed to India to soon issue business visas for its businessmen. He says that if businessmen of both the countries have easy access to each other's markets, then both business and investment will benefit.
According to the information, Bangladesh's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid Islam raised this issue during a program in Dhaka on Tuesday. He said that Bangladeshi businessmen should get business visa for India soon, so that they do not face any problem in traveling to India again and again for business work.
Many challenges in the way of business
Along with this, the minister also stressed on increasing dialogue between the private sector of India and Bangladesh. He said that both the countries should work on such economic partnership which will benefit both. Shama Obaid Islam also mentioned some of the challenges related to trade, which include non-tariff barriers, problems related to quality and testing of products, delays in paperwork and problems related to infrastructure. He believes that by reducing these problems, the movement of goods and services between the two countries can become easier.
Indian companies invited to invest
Let us tell you, during the talks, Bangladesh has also appealed to Indian companies to increase investment there. According to the minister, Indian companies can benefit from Bangladesh's large domestic market, skilled workforce and proximity to regional markets. He said that Indian companies can set up manufacturing and export units in the economic zones of Bangladesh. It has been said to promote such investments which will bring new technology, provide work to local businessmen and create new employment opportunities.
Bangladesh has also appealed to Indian companies to increase business in sectors like readymade garments, textile, jute, leather, footwear, pharmaceuticals, agro-processing, ceramics, plastics and light engineering.
turnover of 11.35 billion dollars
Trade plays an important role in the economic relations between India and Bangladesh. By February in 2025-26, bilateral trade between the two countries was about $11.35 billion. Bangladesh believes that by simplifying the business visa process, reducing trade barriers and increasing investment, the economic relations between the two countries can become stronger.
