Bangladesh Rangpur Hindu Family Murder: Shocking revelations have come to light during the investigation into the murder of four members of a Hindu family in Rangpur, Bangladesh. According to the police, two suspected youths were allegedly consuming a drug called Yaba on the terrace of a retired teacher’s house. The head of the family saw them and protested, after which all four were allegedly murdered.
The police have detained two cousins Mugdho and Siddharth in the case. The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old retired teacher Ganpati Chakraborty, his 50-year-old wife Pritilata Chakraborty, 23-year-old daughter Agami Chakraborty (applicant) and 12-year-old son Priyam Chakraborty.
According to the police, this family had no previous enmity or dispute with anyone. The case was jointly investigated by Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Criminal Investigation Department and Detective Branch, after which both the suspects were arrested.
The accused had entered the house from the neighbor’s terrace
According to Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud, the two suspects reached the terrace of Ganpati’s house through the neighboring building on Thursday night. It is alleged that both of them were consuming Yaba there. Meanwhile, Ganpati heard some voices on the terrace. He went upstairs to see who was there and asked the two youths the reason for their coming to the house.
The accused were afraid that Ganpati would recognize them. For this reason he allegedly killed Ganapati. According to the police, the towel placed on Ganpati’s shoulder was allegedly used against him.
When the wife arrived after hearing the noise, she was also killed.
Hearing the alleged scuffle between Ganpati and the accused, his wife Pritilata also rushed upstairs. According to the police, the accused strangled her with a piece of cloth on the stairs. Investigators say that after this both the children of the family were also killed.
Police suspect that 12-year-old Priyam was targeted because he was a friend of Apoorva, the younger brother of one of the accused. According to investigators, the accused feared that Priyam would recognize them and might tell about them later. However, the final conclusion regarding this entire incident and the motive of the murder will become clear only after the investigation is completed.
Stayed in the house for 6-7 hours even after the murder!
The most surprising aspect of this case is that according to the police, both the suspects did not immediately run away from there after the murder. They stayed inside the same house for about 6 to 7 hours. During the investigation, the police found evidence related to eating, drinking and bathing in the house. Police say that the accused ate cucumbers kept in the house and also ate dates. After this he allegedly took a bath at home.
The police also recovered some other items from the spot, which are said to include evidence related to the burnt bangles. By connecting these clues, the investigators claimed to have reached the suspects. Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner told BBC Bangla that the police could reach the accused after analyzing the evidence found at the scene.
The accused confessed to the crime during interrogation
According to DC Sanatan Chakraborty of Rangpur DB, after taking both the suspects into custody in the morning, they were interrogated separately and together. Police claim that during interrogation both of them confessed to the murder. However, the alleged confession of any accused should not be seen separately from the evidence to be proved in the court and the further legal process. The investigation and judicial process of the case is still going on.
No contact with family for two days
The four bodies were recovered from the locked house of the family located in Daspada, also known as Machhuapada, area of Rangpur on Saturday night at around 11:30 pm. Ganapathi’s body was found on the terrace, while Pritilata and Agami’s bodies were found on the stairs. The body of 12 year old Priyam was found under a bed inside the house.
Relatives had started worrying about the family since Thursday night, as the mobile phones of all four had been switched off. Pritilata’s younger sister Pooja Chakraborty told that she last spoke to her sister on Thursday afternoon. After this the family could not be contacted. The matter came to light when relatives reached home on Saturday night and did not get any response.
Daughter had completed her master’s degree this year
Ganapathy had retired from Rangpur District School on December 31 last year. The family had recently come to live in their new three-storey house built in the area. Ganpati’s daughter Agami had completed her master’s degree in English from Rangpur Carmichael College this year. His 12-year-old son Priyam was a fifth class student in Rangpur Zilla School.
According to local resident Sudhangshu Chandra Das, the family had been living in this area for about four years. People knew Ganapati as a friendly and polite person, although the family did not develop very close relations in the neighborhood. At present, the police have taken both the suspects into custody and have taken the investigation forward.
On one hand, this incident has raised serious questions regarding the safety of the family. On the other hand, the story of the accused staying in the house for several hours after the murder has made the whole case even more disturbing.
