Business News: It is important for customers planning to visit the bank in September 2026 to have information about bank holidays in advance. Bank holidays are not the same across the country. According to the RBI Bank Holiday Calendar, apart from national holidays and Sundays and second-fourth Saturdays, bank branches also remain closed due to local festivals in different states and cities.
However, due to the increasing use of digital banking, transferring money, checking balance, bill payment and many other tasks can be done through mobile or internet banking. But for depositing cash, check related work, submitting documents or some services related to the bank branch, customers have to go to the branch. Therefore, before going to the bank in September, definitely check the holidays of your city.
Banks closed in many cities on 4 September
Bank branches will remain closed in many cities on the occasion of Janmashtami/Krishna Jayanti on 4 September 2026. There will be a bank holiday on this day in Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.
Nationwide holiday on 6th September
Due to 6th September being Sunday, bank branches across the country will remain closed. After this, September 12 is the second Saturday of the month, hence banks will remain closed across the country. On the same day, there will be a bank holiday in Guwahati due to the death anniversary of Shrimant Shankardev. Due to 13th September being Sunday, there will be weekly holiday in all bank branches.
Ganesh Chaturthi holiday on 14th September
Banks will remain closed in many cities on September 14 due to Ganesh Chaturthi and its related festivals. These include Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada. Next day i.e. on September 15, there will be a holiday in bank branches in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneswar and Panaji on the occasion of Samvatsari, Nuakhai and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi.
Many holidays between 20th and 27th September
Due to 20th September being Sunday, banks will remain closed across the country. On September 21, there will be a bank holiday in Guwahati, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram due to occasions related to Srimanta Sankardev birth anniversary and Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi. Banks will remain closed in Ranchi on September 22 due to Karma Puja. After this, bank branches in Jammu and Srinagar will remain closed on 23rd September on the occasion of Maharaja Hari Singh’s birthday.
Due to September 26 being the fourth Saturday of the month, bank branches across the country will remain closed. Due to the next day on 27th September being Sunday, there will be no work in all bank branches.
