5 July 2026…. That morning of Baruipur has shaken the whole of Bengal. A 12-year-old girl, who had left home just to buy food on Saturday afternoon, never returned. The family first waited, then the search began and finally a complaint was lodged with the police. No one had any idea that the next morning his dead body would be found in a pond near the house.
The death of that innocent boy shocked not just one family but the entire area. The anger of the people increased so much that a suspicious person was beaten to death by the mob. After this tension spread in the entire area. The incident took place in South 24 Parganas district.
Postmortem report revealed a painful story
- According to the preliminary postmortem report, marks of serious injuries were found on the private parts of the girl.
- Scratches and bite marks were also found on different parts of the body.
- The report also revealed that his head was hit with a heavy object or his head hit a hard surface. The injury was so serious that there was excessive bleeding.
- The most painful revelation was that water was found in the girl’s lungs and stomach.
- According to investigating officials, this indicates that she was thrown into the pond while she was still alive.
- He died due to both head injury and drowning.
Family’s allegation- the girl was kidnapped
Family members say that the girl had left home on Saturday afternoon but did not return. They allege that four people had kidnapped her. After this the police registered the case and started investigation.
Investigation intensified, many arrests
The police have arrested many people including the main accused in the case. Even before this, two people were detained and interrogation of other suspects is going on. The state police has formed a six-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the entire matter. A total of four FIRs have been registered in this case, including rape-murder and lynching.
Presidency Range Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kankar Prasad Barui said, “Three people have been arrested in this case… Investigation is going on and evidence is being collected.”
CCTV footage became the biggest clue
Investigating agencies are scanning the CCTV footage of the area. According to initial information, the girl was seen going with four people in the cameras. Now the police is trying to clarify his identity and role. Officials say that the findings of the postmortem report are being matched with other evidence so that a strong chargesheet can be prepared.
Tension in the area, restrictions imposed
There has been huge anger among the people after the incident. To maintain law and order, prohibitory orders have been imposed under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) in Baruipur and surrounding areas. Additional police force has been deployed. Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident by taking out a candle march.
The family has only one demand – the culprits should be hanged.
The victim’s father clearly told the administration that the culprits should be given death sentence. The officials have assured them that the investigation will be fair and no accused will be spared.
What did Minister Swapan Dasgupta say?
On the Baruipur rape and murder incident, Minister Swapan Dasgupta said, “It was a terrible incident, it is very bad. Such an incident should never happen. It is a disgrace to the state. I hope that the culprits will be caught soon and punished. Also, I think the police should ensure that such incidents do not happen in future and necessary steps should be taken for this.”
What did BJP MLA Ratna Debnath say?
BJP MLA Ratna Debnath described the incident as extremely sad and said that once again a family lost their daughter. He alleged that law and order remained weak during the previous government, whereas the present government will take strict action against the culprits. He said that even if justice is obtained, the void that has come in the lives of the parents can never be filled.
