BCCI made big changes in Team India for the Tri Series, entry of Rituraj Gaikwad as vice-captain in the team, Ryan Parag out.

New Delhi. Another big blow for Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag after the defeat in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2026. Riyan Parag has been dropped from the India-A team due to injury for the ODI tri-series to be held in Sri Lanka. He was to take the responsibility of vice-captain, but now Chennai Super Kings captain and Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included in the team in his place. Ruturaj will also be the vice-captain of the team. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave this information in the official update.

BCCI said that the men’s selection committee has included Rituraj Gaikwad in the India ‘A’ team for the upcoming Tri-Series to be held in Sri Lanka. He has replaced vice-captain Riyan Parag, who has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury. Ryan’s rehabilitation will be supervised by BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE). Apart from India A and Sri Lanka A, Afghanistan A team is included in the Tri-Series.

Ryan was injured during IPL

In IPL 2026, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag suffered a hamstring injury during the league and due to this reason could not play the match against Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans. His injury was clearly visible in the last few matches played for RR. RR was eliminated from the tournament after losing to GT by 7 wickets in Qualifier 2 in New Chandigarh. After RR’s journey in the IPL comes to an end, Parag will now undergo rehab at the COE in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, Parag also stayed in COE to recover from a shoulder injury.

Gaikwad, who captained Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026, disappointed with his batting and captaincy. Gaikwad could score a total of 337 runs in 14 matches at an average of 28.08 and strike rate of 123.44. Gaikwad has played in ODI format for the Indian senior team. In the India A team, he will be the third player along with Tilak Verma and Anshul Kamboj who has made his debut for the Indian team.
