BCCI to hold crucial meeting to discuss injured players and defeats in Ireland and England, World Cup 2027 also to be discussed

BCCI Review Meeting: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is holding a major review meeting tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd, to discuss Team India’s defeats on the Ireland and England tours. Furthermore, the meeting will discuss injured players, the upcoming New Zealand tour, and plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, and Center of Excellence (CoE) head VVS Laxman are also expected to attend.

There will be discussion about injured players

According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the BCCI’s review meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, in Mumbai. The meeting will review the defeats against Ireland and England. Additionally, important decisions may be made regarding the upcoming New Zealand tour, as well as future tours. Preparations for the 2027 ODI World Cup and the current pressing issue of injured players will also be discussed. Sources indicate that the team management will present its needs and future plans to the board during this meeting, with the ongoing injury crisis being a key issue.

Recently, a report surfaced that the chief selector was unsure whether Jasprit Bumrah was fit before selecting the team for the Sri Lanka tour. He even wrote an email regarding this. It’s worth noting that four players in the 15-member squad selected for the three-match T20 International series against Afghanistan have an asterisk next to them. This means they will be included in the team after passing the fitness test.

Special focus will be on New Zealand tour

The report further states that the Board’s primary focus in this meeting will be India’s tour of New Zealand, scheduled for October-November this year. Team India will play five T20Is, five ODIs, and two Test matches against New Zealand during this tour. This series is crucial for India in terms of the World Test Championship (WTC), and winning both Tests is crucial for the team to reach the final.

In such a scenario, the team management wants to take 5-6 fast bowlers with them on the New Zealand tour. These include Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnur Brar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Akashdeep. The meeting is likely to discuss these bowlers’ availability, fitness, and their roles in the team.

Hardik Pandya’s fitness a matter of concern

Meanwhile, the fitness of star all-rounder Hardik Pandya remains a concern for the team management. Due to his fitness issues, Hardik has not been selected for the T20I series against Afghanistan. Reports suggest that he can only bowl 5-6 overs in an ODI match. Hardik is a crucial player for next year’s ODI World Cup, but his fitness remains a headache for the team management and selectors.
