The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is seeking the government’s approval for the tour of Bangladesh. After a long impasse, the apex body of Indian cricket is ready to play against Bangladesh. Still, a clearance from the government is needed before agreeing to other terms and conditions with the BCB. Bangladesh had refused to play the 2026 T20 World Cup matches in India and opted out of the tournament after the ICC declined their request to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. The problem started when pacer Mustafizur Rahman was removed by the Kolkata Knight Riders from their squad on the instructions of the BCCI before IPL 2026.
According to a report in India Today, the Indian Cricket Board can’t take a call alone, considering the safety of the players. “We are working on everything, and the permission is needed from the government for the tour of Bangladesh. We can’t take the decision alone and will approach the government,” the report quoted a BCCI source as saying.
The report added that the BCCI is also talking to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) regarding the future of the bilateral assignment.
“The BCB have written to us, and we are talking to them. There will be more clarity in the coming days,” the report added.
The BCB has finalised the dates from August 29 to September 15 for the white-ball matches.
The Indian National Cricket Team is in Sri Lanka for the two-Test series, and the squad will also participate in the Asian Games 2026, which is scheduled to take place in Japan on September 24. There is a possibility of the T20I series against Afghanistan.
India last visited Bangladesh in 2022, with both teams competing in three ODIs and two Test matches. While the host nation won the ODI series 2-1, the Test series went in favour of the visitors by a margin of 2-0.
With the new government taking charge in Bangladesh, the relations between the two countries are returning to normalcy. The cricket boards are also trying to resolve their differences, with cricket taking the front seat. The Men in Blue have a huge fan following in the neighbouring country, and the matches involving India attract fans to the venues in Bangladesh.
