BCCI's new order to players, negligence in fitness will not be tolerated; Rules changed before IND vs AFG

The Indian team has been announced for the 3-match T20 series against Afghanistan. However, there were some conditions attached to the selection of players. Players like Nitish Kumar Reddy, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar and Harshit Rana will have to prove their fitness, only then they will get a chance to play in the T-20 series. The board is not 100% sure about his fitness, amid recent criticism over the way it has handled the case of injured players, a report has revealed the new approach adopted by the BCCI in the selection of players. Over the past few months, BCCI’s Center of Excellence (CoE) has come under a lot of criticism for its poor management of injured players. Players like Harshit Rana, Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar and even Nitish Kumar Reddy were called for international matches but were out after spending some time on the field.

According to a report by Cricbuzz, BCCI has now decided that until the management is 200 percent sure about the fitness of a player, he will not be included in the team. A source with knowledge of this policy said, “They want to be not just 100 percent but 200 percent sure about the availability of a player before including him in the team.” Recently, CoE head VVS Laxman clarified the board’s stand and said that efforts are being made to bring complete transparency in the selection of players.

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia put stars in front of the names of some players.

Also told about. He said that since players are selected only 3-4 weeks before international assignments, the board wants to ensure that the conditions for selection are clearly explained.
Saikia said, “If they are selected in that 21 or 28 day period, they will be included in the team. That is why we do not reject them outright. Because on the day of selection, they are not fit, hence we reject them. But, by the time there is an actual need to travel or play a match, they can be fully fit.

As far as selection for the Afghanistan series is concerned, both Bumrah and Reddy are on track to be fully fit and available for the first match of the series in Delhi on September 13.
