New Delhi: A case of extremely cruel treatment of a minor girl has come to light from Nagpur, Maharashtra. According to the police, the 19-year-old accused befriended the 16-year-old girl through Instagram and later took her under his control by threatening her. It is alleged that the accused held the girl hostage, sexually exploited her and beat her brutally. The girl was seriously injured in the attack, after which the police rescued her and took her to the hospital.
Friendship made with fake Instagram account
According to police investigation, the accused had allegedly created an Instagram account with a fake name. Through this medium his conversation with the minor started. Gradually the accused obtained private photographs of the girl and started threatening to make them public.
Police say that the accused used to put pressure on the girl through these pictures and continuous video calls. Due to fear of being defamed, she was not able to resist his threats. The investigating officers have described this alleged strategy of the accused as digital control or 'digital arrest'.
Tortured after being held hostage in a room
According to the police, the accused later allegedly held the girl hostage in a rented room located in Dighori area of Nagpur. There he sexually assaulted the girl and caused her physical injury.
It is alleged that the accused beat the girl with a belt and dog leash. Apart from this, he was attacked with a knife, due to which he suffered many injuries on his body. Police have also made the items used in this case a part of the investigation.
The location reached the police through technical investigation
After the disappearance of the minor, the family had lodged a complaint with the police. With the help of technical information, the police came to know his location. After this, on the night of August 3, the police opened the door of the room and took the girl out safely. The accused was arrested from the spot. The injured girl has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Police are investigating the matter further.
The landlord was also interrogated
During the investigation, the police have also started investigating the role of the landlord where the accused had rented the room. According to the police, rules regarding necessary information and documents related to the tenant were not followed. At present the accused is in jail and the police is investigating all aspects related to the case. The identity of the minor has been kept confidential under the law.
