Beijing Plane Crash: Aircraft crashes into tallest skyscraper, debris rains onto streets
Beijing: A small aircraft crashed into CITIC Tower (China Zun)the tallest building in Beijing, on Friday evening, sending debris and aircraft parts plunging onto the streets below and triggering a major emergency response. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the incident or confirm casualties.
Videos shared on social media showed debris, including what appeared to be part of the aircraft’s tail, falling from the skyscraper as pedestrians fled the area. The impact also shattered windows on the high-rise, which serves as the headquarters of state-owned conglomerate CITIC Group.
The incident reportedly occurred at around 6 p.m. local time in Beijing’s central business district. Witnesses said they saw the aircraft strike the tower before debris scattered across the surrounding area. One witness claimed that a woman with a head injury was taken away in an ambulance, although authorities have not independently confirmed injuries.
Following the crash, police cordoned off roads around the building, prevented people from approaching the site, and restricted photography. A heavy police presence was seen near the skyscraper, with several roads closed as authorities secured the area.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are expected to continue, with officials yet to disclose details about the aircraft, its pilot, or the full extent of the damage.
