A classic video game based on DreamWorks‘ Shrek franchise appears to be returning as a remaster. The game’s revelation comes nearly a year before Shrek 5, which features Zendaya, arrives in theaters.

Shrek 2 Remastered reportedly appeared online ahead of its expected reveal at the ID@Xbox Showcase on October 20. According to Gematsu, the game’s Xbox Store listing appeared online before being taken down shortly afterward. Aspyr is listed as the remaster’s developer. A brief trailer shared on X (via @NotPaloIntel) suggests that an official announcement could arrive at the upcoming Xbox event.

The 52-second trailer showcases familiar characters with enhanced visuals, including Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona, Gingy, and Puss in Boots. A disclaimer states that the footage was captured on PC, but no release date is provided.

What to expect from the Shrek 2 remaster?

The remaster features improved textures, an enhanced UI, 4K resolution, and updated cutscenes. The original game was developed as an adaptation of DreamWorks Animation’s film of the same name, which was released in 2004.

According to the game’s description, as reported by Gematsu, players will explore locations throughout Far Far Away, from Shrek’s swamp to Fiona’s castle, while fighting enemies and solving environmental puzzles.

The new release will introduce Photo Mode, allowing players to capture moments during their adventure, as showcased in the leaked trailer. The remaster also adds a Cheat Mode that unlocks cheats for the playthrough.

The listing also highlights multiplayer support. Players can play solo or team up with up to three friends. Players can choose local couch co-op, online multiplayer, or a mixed mode that combines local and online players.

Players can also switch between heroes at any time. Each character has unique abilities for battling enemies, defeating bosses, and solving puzzles. The ID@Xbox Showcase could provide more information about the remaster, including a possible release date.
