Desk. Former England captain Ben Stokes, who has retired from international cricket, is now preparing to embark on a new career. Stokes, who has earned recognition for his aggressive captaincy and all-round performance on the field, has revealed that he wants to take on the role of head coach of the England cricket team in the future. He says his relationship with the game will never end and he dreams of leading the team again through coaching.
Speaking on the For the Love of Cricket podcast, 35-year-old Ben Stokes said he is currently pursuing a Level 3 coaching course so he can have the full coaching qualifications after retiring from cricket. He said he wants to have all the coaching formalities completed by the time he’s completely finished playing. He knows what he wants to do in the future, and that’s to become a coach. “If I ever get the opportunity to coach the England team, I’d definitely like to take on that responsibility.”
Stokes also said that he enjoys a leadership role off the field. He said that working with the team and guiding the players has always fascinated him. During this conversation, Stokes also expressed his opinion on the England captaincy. He said that he was surprised that Harry Brook was not given the Test captaincy after him. He also expressed concern about Joe Root being appointed captain. It is worth noting that Harry Brook was appointed vice-captain of the Test team during the last Ashes tour, so it was believed that he would become the next captain. However, the England Cricket Board expressed confidence in experienced batsman Joe Root.
