Bengaluru watch brand turns pollution waste into luxury timepiece
Bengaluru-based Bangalore Watch Company has unveiled a new luxury watch that transforms industrial carbon waste into a premium design element, blending sustainability with modern urban storytelling.
Called the Peninsula Carbon, the limited-edition watch introduces a proprietary dial material named ReforgeCarbon™, created using recovered carbon black sourced from industrial waste that would otherwise contribute to air pollution.
Watch inspired by cities and carbon reality
According to the company, the new material combines recovered carbon black with forged carbon fibre under high pressure to create a lightweight and durable dial structure.
Unlike many sustainability-focused products, the brand says the watch is not positioned as a simple environmental solution but as a reflection on how modern cities contribute to pollution and carbon emissions.
Co-founder Mercy Amalraj said the earlier Peninsula collection celebrated nature and landscapes, while the new edition shifts focus towards cities and their environmental footprint.
Unique dial inspired by air pollution
Each watch dial develops its own unique texture and marbling pattern during the compression process, ensuring that no two watches look identical.
One of the most striking design features is the minute track, styled like an Air Quality Index (AQI) scale. The colours gradually shift from green to deep red, subtly symbolising rising pollution levels.
The watch features a 44mm stainless steel case, 200-metre water resistance and a Swiss Sellita automatic movement with a 41-hour power reserve.
Limited edition of 100 pieces
The project was developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based materials company Carbon Craft, which specialises in recovered carbon technologies.
The Peninsula Carbon will be released as a limited edition of 100 pieces and is priced at around ₹2.83 lakh.
The launch has drawn attention online for combining luxury watchmaking with conversations around urbanisation, pollution and environmental awareness.
