Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the arrest of senior Aam Aadmi Party leader and Punjab co-in-charge Satyendar Jain. The Chief Minister alleged that central agencies were being used to suppress the voice of the opposition before the assembly elections. Calling it an act of political vendetta, he said that such action cannot stop the Aam Aadmi Party government from working for the people.
Accused of misuse of ED and CBI
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said the BJP has no political base in Punjab and is using central agencies like ED and CBI to defame and put pressure on its political opponents. He said that such action against the opposition has been an old strategy of the BJP.
The Chief Minister also described the arrest of Satyendar Jain as a part of this strategy. He said that using central agencies to harass political opponents is not appropriate for democracy. He also mentioned the action taken against Aam Aadmi Party leaders before the assembly elections in Delhi.
Said- will not be afraid of political retaliation
Bhagwant Singh Mann said that he is not afraid of such action and he will continue to work in the interest of the common people of Punjab. He accused the BJP of trying to defame the Punjab government through baseless issues.
He said that his government's focus is on the welfare of the people and despite political pressure the government will not step back from its work. The Chief Minister also said that he does not need to seek honesty certificates from such leaders whom he accuses of harming the interests of Punjab.
Punjab does not need to take certificate of patriotism: Mann
The Chief Minister also targeted BJP on patriotism and nationalism. He said that Punjab does not need to take certificate of patriotism from any political party or the central government. The Chief Minister said that Punjabis have made huge sacrifices for the country and the tricolor for a long time.
He said that it was wrong to question the patriotism of the people of Punjab and there should be no attempt to defame the state through such issues.
Chief Minister also gave information on flood situation
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann appealed to the people not to panic regarding the flood situation in Punjab. He said that the state government is constantly monitoring the water level in rivers and dams. The government is monitoring the situation and steps will be taken as needed.
Support for the parole of Jagtar Singh Hawara
The Chief Minister also demanded parole to jailed Jagtar Singh Hawara on humanitarian grounds to meet his ailing mother. He told that he has already raised this issue with the Governor of Punjab. According to the Chief Minister, the final decision in this matter has to be taken by the Government of India.
