He was the Regional Director of 'Hu' for Southeast Asia. Earlier, Hasina had been sent on indefinite unpaid leave by the World Health Organization. This time he resigned himself.
After the fall of the Hasina government, the interim government of Muhammad Yunus started an investigation against the leaders and activists of the Awami League. Saimao was not left out. The Anti-Corruption Commission of Bangladesh accused Hasinakanya that she became the regional head of Hu under the influence of her mother. Besides, further allegations, Saima abused his power. This is not the end, he was accused of multiple charges including financial corruption. On the other hand, Bangladesh's Anti-Corruption Commission alleged that Saima had collected $28 million in donations from various banks for 'Suchna Foundation', the organization he once headed. But Hasinakanya dismissed all the allegations. It is worth mentioning that Saima was appointed as the head of Southeast Asia by 'Hu' for five years in 2024.
According to the news agency Reuters report, 'Hu' alleged that Saima committed financial fraud while visiting China. Not only that, the World Health Organization also accused him of giving wrong information about his educational qualifications. But Hasina denied all the allegations. It does not end here. Allegations of expropriation of land in Bangladesh were also raised by 'Hu'. However, Saima claims that she became the owner of the land under a law applicable to the family of the leader of Bangladesh's freedom struggle and 'Bangabandhu' Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Saima sent his resignation letter to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday. There he wrote, 'I was selected as WHO's Regional Director for Southeast Asia to serve my country and region. I performed that duty with devotion.' He added, 'Since you have been constantly preventing me from carrying out my duties effectively, I no longer have any confidence or faith in your leadership. Moreover, the decision to send me on unpaid leave has made my financial situation unbearable as I have not received any remuneration for almost a year. In this situation, I have decided to step down from the post.'
