Big accident in Visakhapatnam: 8 workers died, many injured due to falling of molten iron in steel plant.

Visakhapatnam. Eight workers died and nine others were injured in a horrific industrial accident that took place on Monday evening at the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited plant located here. Official sources have confirmed the death of eight workers. The condition of many of the injured is said to be serious. The accident occurred in the steel melt shop (SMS-2) and associated areas of the steel plant when a large amount of molten steel spilled out. A large number of workers were working there at the time of the incident.

According to sources, the hot metal bucket (ladle) carrying molten steel with a temperature of about 1500 degrees Celsius suddenly broke and fell, due to which the molten metal spread on the workers working below. After the accident, there was chaos on the spot and frightened workers started running here and there to save their lives. A large number of fire vehicles reached the plant to control the situation. The injured were immediately admitted to various hospitals. There was chaos and anarchy in the steel plant as the molten iron spread across the area.

An official said that the exact number of dead and injured would be known only after the fire is completely controlled. As soon as the information about the incident was received, the District Collector, Police Commissioner and other senior officers reached the steel plant and are monitoring the relief and rescue operations. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep sorrow over the accident. He talked to the officials and took information about the incident and gave instructions to speed up the relief work.

The release said that the Chief Minister has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the accident. He has directed all the departments to work in coordination and provide necessary assistance.

According to the police, the molten iron kept in a bucket was being transported by crane when it fell on the workers, leading to the incident. Police said that the molten iron was extremely hot and its temperature was around 1,600 degrees Celsius.
