New Delhi: The raid by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the premises of Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora in the Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab has intensified the stir in the politics of the state. Different teams of ED are taking action at many places including Chandigarh, Delhi and Gurugram. The official residence of the minister is also being interrogated and investigated by the officials.

ED is taking this action under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). It is being told that the investigating agency has taken this step in the case related to alleged fake GST purchases, money laundering and illegal financial transactions. Which locations were raided?

ED has conducted search operations at a total of five places in Delhi, Gurugram and Chandigarh. This action was taken at the offices of Hampton Sky Realty Limited and the house of Punjab Government Minister Sanjeev Arora.

According to sources, ED is likely to get documents related to money laundering and fake GST transactions on a large scale.

What are the allegations against Sanjeev Arora?

ED alleges that Sanjeev Arora showed fake GST purchase of mobile phones worth more than Rs 100 crore through his company. After this, these mobile phones were used for “round tripping” of illegal money to India through Dubai.

According to the investigating agency, fake GST purchase bills were obtained from many firms that were not present in Delhi. On the basis of these bills, fake Input Tax Credit (ITC) was claimed and the benefit of GST refund and duty drawback on exports was availed.

ED says that this caused huge loss to the government treasury and financial benefits were taken at the private level.
