Big action in Sambhal: Mustafa Qadri mosque built on graveyard land is razed

An alleged illegal mosque built on land registered as a graveyard in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district was demolished by the administration on Saturday following an eviction order from the revenue courts. The officers provided this information. The action was taken in Kaserua village of Nakhasa police station area, where the administration claims that Mustafa Qadri Mosque was constructed on about 1,200 square meters of graveyard land.

District Magistrate Ankit Khandelwal said that the appeal filed by the Mosque Committee against the eviction order of the Tehsildar Court was rejected as the Committee could not present any evidence to support its claim on the land. Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Bishnoi said that after all the legal procedures were completed, the demolition action was carried out in the presence of heavy police force.

Tehsildar Dhirendra Kumar Singh said that this land is registered in the name of cemetery in the revenue records and an order to vacate it was passed on April 21. However, mosque caretaker Zakir Hussain refuted the administration’s claim, saying that the mosque is several hundred years old and was rebuilt about 25 years ago. He alleged that the court did not properly hear the mosque committee’s side before passing the eviction order.
