Big action of Shubhendu Adhikari: Major reshuffle in the administration as soon as he assumed power, took these tough decisions on the very first day
Kolkata. With the formation of the new BJP government in West Bengal, major changes have started in the administrative and police departments. Within just 24 hours of taking oath, Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari has made sweeping changes in the bureaucratic structure of the State Secretariat and the Chief Minister’s Office. This action is being seen as a sign of major changes in the administrative system of the state.
On the very first day of the government, 16 senior officials considered close to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were replaced. Among these, the name of 2014 batch IAS officer Shantanu Mukhopadhyay is most prominent, who was counted among the very close officers of Mamata Banerjee.
Apart from this, Pratap Nayak, one of the prominent leaders of the Trinamool Congress-backed West Bengal Government Employees Union, has been transferred to the Palbazar Block Development Office in Bijanbari in Darjeeling district. At the same time, 46 officers working at the level of Principal Secretary during the Mamta government have been attached to the State Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department. The decision on his new posting will be taken later.
Big changes were also seen in the Chief Minister’s office. Retired IAS officer Subrata Gupta has been appointed advisor to the Chief Minister, while 2017 batch IAS officer Subrata Bala has been made Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Subhendu Adhikari. Earlier he was posted as Additional District Magistrate in South 24 Parganas.
Meanwhile, large scale transfers have also been made in Kolkata Police. A total of 93 officers of the level of sub-inspector, inspector, assistant commissioner and deputy commissioner have been sent out of the jurisdiction of the city police. Many of these officers were considered influential in the Trinamool-backed Police Welfare Association.
The transferred officers have been sent to districts like Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Sundarbans, Bankura and Purulia.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Rahul Sinha hit out at TMC and the Left, saying “two destructive forces” are coming together in Bengal. He claimed that the hold of the Left parties has weakened and the Trinamool Congress has also lost the trust of the people. Rahul Sinha said that the people of Bengal now want change and have refused to support Mamata Banerjee.
