New Delhi. Before attending the Commonwealth Summit, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has given a big statement. He has said that he is ready to apologize with an open heart for the Trans Atlantic Swell Trade i.e. slave trade. However, he also clarified that he is not ready to pay any compensation for this. The UK Prime Minister has said this through an article in 'The Guardian'.
What did Andy Burnham say?
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham said that he realizes the pain that people have suffered. He is very sad about this. Andy said that whatever cruelty has been done in the past has not yet been erased. He said that distributing compensation is not a solution. Instead of one atrocity it will be called another kind of atrocity. Because today's people of Britain cannot be held responsible for these incidents.
At present, Britain's King Charles is on a tour of Caribbean countries. Charles also mentioned slavery in the Bahamas and paid tribute to those killed during British rule. Till now no such apology has ever been sought from Britain. However, considering the sensitivity of this issue, Britain now thought it best to apologize. Britain says that it cannot be denied that it earned money from the slave trade but it also played a role in stopping it later. In 1833, the British Parliament declared slavery illegal. Even after passing such a proposal in the Parliament, Britain did not stop ruling other countries and continued exploiting them.
