Devan has announced his resignation from the party post as well as his primary membership. Devan informed about his decision from the stage during a public program organized at Kanachikulangara Devi Temple on Sunday.
His resignation is being considered an important political development for Kerala BJP. S. Devan was associated with BJP for the last five years and was playing an active role in the party’s activities in the state. He said that after joining BJP, he realized that his political thinking and his role within the party did not match the political path he wanted to pursue.
Announcement of resignation from the stage
Many prominent people including Vellappalli Natesan, General Secretary of Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP Yogam) were present in the program organized at Kanachikulangara Devi Temple. BJP leader B. Radhakrishna Menon also participated in the program. At the end of his address S. He said that after joining BJP, the experience of the last five years made him realize that he was not able to move forward in the direction as per his political ideology and thinking. For this reason he decided to separate from the party. He told that he has prepared his resignation letter to leave the post of Vice President and primary membership of BJP.
Have contested elections in 2004 and 2006
S. Devan also mentioned his old political journey during the program. He told that he had contested elections in 2004 and 2006, although he had to face defeat in both the elections. He said that it was during this program organized at the temple that he decided to announce his decision publicly. Concluding his speech, Devan reiterated that he has decided to resign from the post of state vice president of BJP as well as the primary membership of the party.
BJP leader expressed objection on choosing the platform
On Devan’s decision to resign, BJP leader B. Radhakrishna Menon responded. He questioned Devan’s decision to leave the party rather than specifically the forum where it was announced. Menon said it was not clear to him why Devan decided not to work further with the BJP. He also said that the party is working towards its goal of making India a developed and globally strong country by 2047. However, according to him, it was not appropriate to choose the platform of the temple program to announce the resignation.

Actor S. Devan’s political journey did not start from BJP. He had earlier formed his own separate political party, named ‘Kerala People’s Party’. Later in the year 2020, the name of the party was changed to ‘Nava Kerala People’s Party’. Devan joined BJP and was given the responsibility of Vice President in the Kerala Pradesh organization.
