Big blow to Iran, Britain declared IRGC a terrorist organization
New Delhi: Britain has decided to declare Iran’s powerful military unit Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization. After this decision, supporting IRGC will be considered a criminal offense in Britain. There was a political debate going on in Britain for a long time regarding banning this organization, after which the government has taken this step.
The British Home Office said that after reviewing the available evidence, it has been concluded that the IRGC has been involved in activities that pose a threat to Britain’s national security. The government says that this decision was necessary to protect the country’s security and national interests.
IMCR also in banned list
Along with this, the British government has also announced plans to include the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right (IMCR) and the Russian Federation Volunteer Corps in the list of banned organizations. According to the government, IMCR has been linked to attacks on targets linked to the Jewish community in Britain, while the Russian Federation Volunteer Corps has been described as part of an international network linked to the Russian military intelligence agency.
Why was the decision taken?
The government said that this decision has been taken after the alleged security threats and conspiracies related to Iran on British soil. These also include an alleged conspiracy to murder two journalists associated with Iran International Television and cyber attacks targeting British interests. These incidents had increased the concern of British security agencies.
The Home Office said in its statement that the Home Secretary, after a thorough study of all available evidence and a legal review, concluded that the activities of these organizations fall into the category of security threats associated with foreign powers. Therefore, banning them is necessary for the security of Britain, protection of citizens and protection of national interests.
