New Delhi: The film ‘Black Deer: The Battle for Legacy’, which is said to be based on the 1998 black buck case involving Salman Khan, is once again in legal trouble. Arguments came from Salman Khan and the makers in the Delhi High Court regarding the release of the film.
The film got stuck even before its release
The lawyer appearing in the court on behalf of the film’s producer Amit Jani said that he will have to take instructions from his client in this matter. Objections were raised regarding the release of the film. According to the makers, the film is not ready for release yet and is yet to be sent to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for censor certification. The trailer of the film has also not been released yet.
The lawyer appearing on behalf of Salman Khan gave a different argument regarding the OTT release. He said that censor certification is not required for release on OTT platform. After this, the court also included OTT release within the scope of its order. Now the makers have to file their reply within two weeks and the next hearing will be on September 30.
Why did Salman express his objection?
The root of this controversy is the black buck hunting case of 1998. After this case which came to light during the shooting of the film ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ in Rajasthan, Salman Khan remained in legal dispute for a long time.
Now the story and promotional material of the film ‘Black Deer’ is being linked to this case. Salman’s team alleges that aspects related to his identity and personality are being used in the film. On this basis, the actor had demanded a ban on the release and promotional material of the film.
There has been controversy over teaser and promotion also
This matter has already reached the court. In June, the High Court had given notice to the film makers on Salman’s petition. Later in July, the court had also directed to remove some social media links related to the teaser of the film and some interviews of the producer. On the other hand, producer Amit Jani says that the film is a story inspired by a real controversy and cannot be called a biopic of Salman Khan.
Eyes fixed on 30th September
At present the situation regarding the release of the film is not clear. Neither is the way for its release in theaters clear, nor is the picture clear regarding its release on OTT. Now the reply of the makers and the hearing on 30th September will decide whether ‘Black Deer’ gets the way for further release or the legal hurdles remain.
