Punjab news: On the occasion of May Day, the Punjab Assembly has taken a historic decision to increase the minimum wage by 15 percent after 13 years. All registered workers of government and private sector will benefit from this proposal passed unanimously in the House. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann called it a tribute to the contribution of the working class.

He also targeted Congress for walking out from the special session. Also announced that Shukrana Yatra will be taken out after the ‘Jagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Samman (Amendment) Act-2026’ is passed.

CM said that the base rate of minimum wage was last revised in the year 2012. After that dearness allowance kept increasing, but there was no change in the basic wages. He said that this decision taken on the occasion of May Day is very important for the workers.

The Chief Minister said that this increase is a true honor of the contribution of the workers. He believed that this decision should have been taken earlier, but the previous governments did not take any step in this direction.

Bhagwant Mann said that the tenure of the last two governments passed without increasing the wages of the workers, whereas this class is the backbone of the society. He also paid tribute to the workers martyred in the Chicago movement of 1886.

Recently 359 students passed the JEE Main exam, a large number of whom were from labor families. He said that if they get good jobs, the economic condition of these families will automatically improve.

CM said that education is very important to uplift the poor and backward classes. For this reason his government is paying maximum attention to this area. He also saluted the struggle and spirit of the labor unions.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the ‘Jagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026’ as historic and said that he has received God’s blessings to implement it. In this law, there is a provision for strict punishment in cases of sacrilege.
