Punjab news: On the occasion of May Day, the Punjab Assembly has taken a historic decision to increase the minimum wage by 15 percent after 13 years. All registered workers of government and private sector will benefit from this proposal passed unanimously in the House. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann called it a tribute to the contribution of the working class.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said that education is the biggest medium to change the lives of workers and his government is making major reforms in this direction. He also targeted Congress for walking out from the special session. Also announced that Shukrana Yatra will be taken out after the ‘Jagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Samman (Amendment) Act-2026’ is passed.
Punjab news: Basic wages increased after 13 years
CM said that the base rate of minimum wage was last revised in the year 2012. After that dearness allowance kept increasing, but there was no change in the basic wages. He said that this decision taken on the occasion of May Day is very important for the workers.
Contribution of workers got respect
The Chief Minister said that this increase is a true honor of the contribution of the workers. He believed that this decision should have been taken earlier, but the previous governments did not take any step in this direction.

Bhagwant Mann said that the tenure of the last two governments passed without increasing the wages of the workers, whereas this class is the backbone of the society. He also paid tribute to the workers martyred in the Chicago movement of 1886.

The CM appealed to the workers to come forward and be aware of their rights to usher in a new era of development and prosperity. He said that the government is trying to strengthen the workers by increasing registration.

He said that the session had started in a positive atmosphere, but Congress leaders boycotted it without any concrete issue. This shows his anti-labor attitude. He claimed that his government is continuously working for the rights of workers.
Education will change the fate of laborers
Referring to education reforms, the Chief Minister said that the children of government schools have performed brilliantly. Recently 359 students passed the JEE Main exam, a large number of whom were from labor families. He said that if they get good jobs, the economic condition of these families will automatically improve.

CM said that education is very important to uplift the poor and backward classes. For this reason his government is paying maximum attention to this area. He also saluted the struggle and spirit of the labor unions.
Announcement of Shukrana Yatra
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann described the ‘Jagat Jot Shri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act 2026’ as historic and said that he has received God’s blessings to implement it. In this law, there is a provision for strict punishment in cases of sacrilege.

He said that this law will ensure that the culprits will not be spared under any circumstances. It is everyone’s responsibility to maintain the sanctity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and this is a big step in this direction.
The journey will start from May 6
Punjab news: CM informed that he will start Shukrana Yatra from Sri Anandpur Sahib on 6th May, which will continue till 9th May. During this time, thanks will be given for this historic decision by paying obeisance in many major Gurudwaras.
