Big decision of Central Government, 1 good news for citizens

New Delhi. The Central Government has taken a big decision regarding the country’s energy supply. After the situation in West Asia normalized and the movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz resumed, the government has lifted most of the emergency restrictions imposed on the supply of natural gas. This decision is expected to provide relief to industries, power plants and energy sector. At the same time, the way has been cleared for the common consumers to get the energy supply system back to normal as before.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a notification clarifying that now the special control system applicable on gas distribution has been abolished. Along with this, the priority based supply system created in emergency situations has also been withdrawn.

Special steps were taken during the crisis

This year, during the increased tension in West Asia, there was a fear that the global energy supply would be affected. In particular, the risk of disruption of supplies of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz had increased. In view of this situation, the Central Government had imposed temporary controls under the Essential Commodities Act, so that domestic needs could be given priority and energy crisis could be avoided.

Now gas supply will be normal

After the latest decision of the government, natural gas can be supplied again as per normal business arrangements. This is likely to make gas available to industries, power generation units and other large consumers in a more convenient manner than before.

Relief to industry and power sector

After the implementation of the new system, sufficient gas is likely to be available to gas-based power plants, fertilizer industries, petrochemical units and other industrial sectors. This will increase production capacity and operational activities of industries will be able to become normal as before.

The economy may benefit

With energy supply normalizing, cost pressure in manufacturing, transportation and industrial sectors is likely to reduce. This can increase production and also strengthen economic activities. If the situation remains stable at the international level, the energy sector may see more stability in the times to come.
