Big decision of Central Government, 5 big good news for farmers
New Delhi. The Central Government has taken a big step towards modernizing and digitalizing the agriculture sector in the country. The government has decided to provide interest-free capital loans of up to Rs 13,000 crore to states and union territories. The objective of this scheme is to rapidly develop digital agriculture infrastructure like AgriStack across the country, so that farmers can get more transparent, faster and accurate services.
1. Expansion of digital system for farmers
Under this initiative, Farmer Registry and Digital Crop Survey will be strengthened in the country. With this, the identity of farmers will be recorded in digital form and the benefits of government schemes will reach directly to the right beneficiaries.
2. Transparent and fast profit distribution
The government believes that irregularities and leakages in agricultural schemes will reduce through digital platforms. With this, subsidies, insurance and other benefits will reach the farmers in a fast and transparent manner.
3. Funding will be performance based
This entire scheme is part of the Rs 2 lakh crore capex loan package proposed for the financial year 2026-27. The special thing is that states will get funds only when they implement the prescribed reforms and their progress will be evaluated. That means now funding will be directly linked to performance.
4. Increasing use of technology in agriculture sector
Under this scheme, investment will be made in various areas, such as digital system of fertilizer distribution, improvement in Minimum Support Price (MSP) procurement process, digital assessment of crop production, integration of crop insurance schemes. These reforms will also strengthen the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and provide speed and transparency to farmers in settlement of claims.
5. Special attention to North-East and hilly areas
The government has made special provisions for the North-Eastern states, hilly areas, Goa and Union Territories. Besides, emphasis is also being laid on geo-referenced village maps and satellite based land mapping, which will make accurate identification of land possible.
