New Delhi. The government has taken an important decision for the gallantry medal winners and their families who have shown extraordinary courage to protect the country. The Ministry of Defense has approved the facility of free travel for life in Indian Railways to the eligible winners awarded with Sena Medal, Nau Sena Medal and Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry).
These categories will get benefits
The scope of this facility will not be limited to medal winners only. Spouses of eligible winners will also get this facility. Under this, the parents of unmarried sacrifice medal winners will also be given the facility of rail travel. Widow or widower spouse has been informed to get this benefit till remarriage.
Travel in first class and second AC
Under the sanctioned facility, eligible beneficiaries will be able to travel in First Class, Second AC and AC Chair Car. Its objective is to show respect to the bravery medal winners and their families and to provide them travel facilities.
Online booking starts from 1st November
A digital and paperless system has been prepared to implement this facility. Eligible beneficiaries will register online on the Indian Railway Concession Card Portal. E-pass will be issued after completion of verification. On the basis of this, information has been given that the facility of ticket booking through IRCTC will start from 1 November 2026. This step of the government is being considered important in the direction of providing special facilities during the journey to the gallantry medal winners and the families of the martyrs who have contributed in the defense of the country.
