Big impact of ‘Gangster Te War’ operation in Punjab, incidents of firing reduced by 69 percent
Punjab: The success of Operation ‘Gangster Te War’ conducted by Punjab Police is not limited to the arrest of criminals and recovery of drugs, but the operation has struck at the roots of gangster networks, leading to a significant reduction in the crime rate across the state.
Due to the continuous efforts of Punjab Police, a huge reduction in organized crime has been recorded within three months of the launch of ‘Gangster War’. There has been 100 percent reduction in murder cases related to gangsters in the state. While four such cases were registered in the month of January, this number has become zero in March.
Decline in firing and recovery cases
Not only murders, but there has also been a huge reduction of 69 percent in firing incidents involving gangsters. As compared to 29 incidents of firing in the first month of the year, this number came down to only 9 by April 20. Similarly, the cases of extortion have also decreased by 10.9 percent. As compared to 110 cases in January, this number has come down to 98 in March.
People’s trust increased through helpline
After the establishment of the toll-free anti-gangster helpline (93946-93946), more citizens are coming forward to lodge complaints related to extortion. Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “Punjab Police has not only controlled the crime rate in the state but has also won the confidence of the people through the ‘Gangster Te War’ campaign. The record shows how seriously the work has been done to dismantle the criminal networks. This is just the beginning, as the Punjab Police is taking sustained action to completely eradicate the gangster culture.”
Impact visible till border areas
According to the analysis, the total cases of extortion have also decreased by about 11 percent during this period. The impact of this campaign is also clearly visible on violent criminal activities. Its success is not limited to cities and districts only, but is also being seen in the border areas. Statistics also show that there has been a significant decline in organized crime, which was earlier becoming a major reason for the growth of gangster culture.
direct action on network
In this regard, DGP Gaurav Yadav said, “This operation is not limited to cracking down only on big gangsters, but action is also being taken on their entire network in Punjab. People involved in small crimes are more likely to be recruited into gangs. By taking strict action against such elements, we have weakened their network and strengthened the ‘zero tolerance’ policy towards crime in the state.”
