Big news for central employees! 6% annual increment proposed in the 8th Pay Commission, not 3%?

8th Pay Commission: These days, the eyes of central employees and pensioners are fixed on the 8th Pay Commission. The Commission is working towards finalizing its recommendations and in the meantime many important suggestions have come forward from the employee organizations. Among these, the most discussed is the demand for pay scale merger and increasing the annual increment from 3 percent to 6 percent. However, this is currently the demand of the employee organization and not the final recommendation of the government or the Pay Commission.

Demand for 6% annual increment

In the current system, central employees get an annual increment of 3 percent every year. Now it has been suggested to increase it to 6 percent. Employee organizations argue that the current increment is no longer sufficient in view of rising inflation and cost of living. If this demand is agreed to in the future, a relatively sharp increase in the income of employees may be seen.

Demand to increase minimum wage also

Employee organizations have also suggested increasing the minimum basic pay to Rs 69,000. Apart from this, proposals like new inflation related pay system, integrated pay matrix and improvement in pension structure have also been placed before the Commission.

Why did the demand for pay scale merger arise?

Employee organizations believe that in the existing pay matrix, there are many pay levels in which the pay difference is very small, even though the responsibilities of the employees are almost the same. In such a situation, maintaining different levels creates a feeling of inequality among the employees. For this reason, it has been suggested to create a simple and balanced pay structure by combining some pay levels. According to the proposal, there is a demand to integrate Level 2 and 3, Level 4 and 5, Level 7 and 8 and Level 9 and 10.

Separate proposal for level-5 employees

Employees’ organizations have also suggested that Level-5 employees working at the same pay level for a long time should be included in Level-6 by giving them a one-time upgrade. He says that this will increase the pace of career growth and provide relief from long-term problems related to promotion.
