A big step has been taken towards modernizing public transport in Uttar Pradesh. The state government has approved the inclusion of 250 new AC electric buses in the fleet of Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC). Approximately Rs 425.50 crore will be spent on this project. With the induction of new buses, passengers will get a comfortable, safe and environment-friendly travel experience.
On one hand, the aim of the government is to increase the quality of public transport, while on the other hand it is also to reduce pollution and promote green transport.
How many and what will the new electric buses be like?
Under the scheme, modern AC electric buses of two different categories will be purchased.
– 100 AC electric buses – 12 meters long and 50 seat capacity
– 150 AC electric buses – 12 meters long and 42 seat capacity
Keeping in mind the convenience and safety of the passengers, modern technology and better facilities will be provided in all these buses.
Cost will be more than Rs 425 crore
A total of Rs 425.50 crore is estimated to be spent on the purchase of new buses. In this…
– State government will provide Rs 400 crore
– Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation will spend Rs 25.50 crore from its own resources.
The government believes that this investment will prove helpful in reducing fuel costs and also in environmental protection in the long run.
Industries of the state will also get a boost
A provision has been made to give priority to manufacturers from Uttar Pradesh in the purchase of new electric buses. This can boost the industrial sector of the state as well as increase employment opportunities at the local level.
This step of the government is also considered important towards ‘Make in UP’ and encouraging local manufacturing.
The goal of pollution control will be strengthened
According to the Transport Department, this decision is also in line with the guidelines related to air pollution control in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The provision of allowing only CNG, electric and BS-6 standard vehicles to enter Delhi is to be implemented from November 1, 2026. In such a situation, increasing the fleet of electric buses will also increase the convenience for the passengers going from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi.
There will be better connectivity to religious and tourist places
New electric buses will also be operated to major religious and tourist places of the state. This is expected to make travel to Ayodhya, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Mathura, Vrindavan, Chitrakoot and other major tourist places more comfortable and convenient. Also, passengers will get the benefit of modern transport while traveling long distances.
Hundreds of electric buses are already running
The expansion of electric buses is already underway in Uttar Pradesh. At present more than 743 electric buses are operating in various cities of the state. These are mainly being used in urban transport services.
Recently, 45 new electric buses have also been included in service on major routes of Lucknow and Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida).
UP Roadways fleet is continuously getting stronger
Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation currently operates more than 13 thousand diesel and CNG buses. Now with the increase in the number of electric buses, the roadways fleet will become more modern and environment friendly.
The government aims to increase the share of electric buses along with conventional fuel buses in a phased manner in the coming years.
The decision to purchase 250 new AC electric buses is being considered as a step to give a new direction to the public transport system of Uttar Pradesh. This will provide comfortable and safe travel to the passengers, while also helping in reducing pollution and promoting green energy. With the operation of these buses equipped with modern technology, the quality of roadways services will improve and travel on religious, tourist and business routes of the state is expected to become more convenient than before.
