Former New Zealand opener Jeet Rawal has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 38-year-old Indian-origin cricketer has played 24 Test matches for New Zealand between 2016 and 2020. He scored over 10,000 runs in first-class cricket. He has not returned to the New Zealand team since 2020. After six years away from the national team, he has finally decided to retire. Jeet Rawal announced his retirement
Jeet Rawal, 38, announced his retirement ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season. Informing the Northern Districts Cricket Association about his retirement, he said, 'He is very proud to take this decision. I am completely happy and satisfied with my decision. It was my dream to play for New Zealand from a young age and I look back on those days with great pride. It was not only my dream, but also my father's dream. My father saw hope for a better future in New Zealand and moved the whole family so that I could pursue my dream of becoming a cricketer.'
Career of Jeet Rawal
Jeet Rawal was born in September 1988 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He studied at Vidyanagar School, where as a child he used to open the innings with Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel. He also played cricket for the Gujarat Under-15 and Under-17 teams. In 2004, at the age of 16, he moved with his family to Auckland, New Zealand.
More than 10,000 runs in first-class cricket
Jeet was one of the most successful opening batsmen in New Zealand domestic cricket. He scored 10,432 runs at an average of 37.66 in 164 matches during his first-class career. This includes 24 centuries and 50 fifties. He scored 8,662 runs in the Plunkett Shield, one of New Zealand's premier domestic competitions.
At international level, Jeet Rawal played 24 Test matches for New Zealand. He scored 1,143 runs in 39 innings. This includes one century and seven fifties. He played his last Test match in January 2020 against Australia in Perth. After an 18-year first-class career, he announced his retirement from professional cricket.
