Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court has given significant relief to petitioner Shubham Sharma in the controversy over height measurement in Uttar Pradesh Police Sub-Inspector Civil Police Recruitment 2025 and has ordered to measure his height again.
A single bench of Justice Rajiv Singh directed the state government and the police department to get the height of petitioner Shubham Sharma measured again by a panel of experts on July 6, 2026 at 11:30 am at the Reserve Police Lines, Lucknow. The entire process will be compulsorily videographed and the report will be presented in the court on July 16, 2026.
In the petition, Shubham Sharma had alleged that during the recruitment process, during document verification and physical standards test, his height was wrongly measured as 167.0 cm and 167.1 cm, whereas in the certificate issued by the Medical Officer of Agra District Hospital, his height was stated as 168.2 cm. The petitioner had immediately lodged an objection, but on re-measuring, the same height was recorded.
The court took the petitioner’s Agra District Hospital certificate seriously and intervened in the matter. Additional Chief Standing Counsel, appearing for the State, argued that there was a proper procedure to measure the height and the measurement was re-taken on objection, hence there was no need for court intervention.
Advocate Subhash Chandra Yadav told the entire matter to the court on behalf of the petitioner, on which the court, after hearing the arguments of both the parties, found the petition worthy of consideration and passed an order to start a new process of measuring height. This order in favor of advocate Subhash Chandra Yadav can become an inspiration for the recruitment process.
This order is being considered important for those youth who get caught in controversy regarding measurement of height in recruitment examination.
