Big setback for India on Sri Lanka tour: Shubman Gill injured, KL Rahul gets captaincy

Colombo. Team India has suffered a major setback ahead of the two-Test series between India and Sri Lanka. Captain Shubman Gill was unable to take the field on the first day of the warm-up match. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Gill injured his right ring finger during a practice session on Thursday.

According to the BCCI, the injury occurred during practice and as a precautionary measure, Shubman Gill has been rested on the first day of the three-day warm-up match against the SLC XI. The BCCI medical team is currently monitoring his condition. It has not yet been determined how serious the injury is or when he will be fully fit.

In Gill’s absence, experienced batsman KL Rahul is captaining Team India. This match is considered crucial for the Indian players as it will test their final preparations ahead of the Test series.

SLC XI won the toss and elected to bat in this three-day warm-up match being played at the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. The match will be played from Friday, August 7th to August 9th.

Shubman Gill’s injury has certainly raised concerns for the Indian team, as he also captains the Test team. However, the BCCI has clarified that this is merely a precautionary measure, and the medical team is continuously monitoring his recovery. All eyes will now be on whether Gill is fully fit before the start of the Test series.
