Big shock to gas consumers! Booking rules are changing from May 1, know this otherwise you will regret.

New Delhi: The increasing tension in the Middle East has increased the murmur of changing the budget and rules of India’s kitchen. In view of the danger of supply stoppage in the Strait of Hormuz, the Indian government and oil companies are going to take big steps. There is news that the availability of LPG may be affected in the coming time, in view of which the three leading companies of the country – Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas can make major changes in the booking rules. It is believed that these new rules may come into effect from May 1, 2026.

Now you will be able to book second cylinder only after 25 days

Under the new proposed rules, it may be made mandatory to have a gap of at least 25 days between the booking of two gas cylinders. This means that if you have booked a cylinder today, you will have to wait for about a month for the next refill. This rule will have the biggest impact on those families whose consumption is high or who use more than one cylinder in a month. The objective of the government is to ensure proper distribution of limited stock.

Delivery will not be available without OTP, fraud will be curbed

Apart from booking, the delivery system is also being made more stringent. Now there is a plan to implement OTP based delivery system compulsorily. As soon as your cylinder leaves the warehouse for delivery, a code will be sent to your registered mobile number. Unless you tell that OTP to the delivery boy, the cylinder will not be handed over to you. This step is expected to completely stop black marketing and fake delivery of gas.

India’s need and government’s new strategy

Talking about India’s gas needs, the country needs about 80,000 tonnes of LPG every day. However, domestic production is only 46,000 tonnes per day. India is largely dependent on imports to meet its needs. Earlier, India used to fulfill 90% of its needs from Gulf countries, but now the government has also started buying gas from countries like Russia, America, Norway, Canada and Algeria so that the supply does not stop in case of war in any one region.

In view of the war crisis, India has now started purchasing LPG from the ‘spot market’ also. This means that gas is being purchased from the market immediately when needed so that there is no shortage of cylinders in the country. According to government sources, lakhs of tonnes of LPG have been imported so far and many cargo ships have also reached India.
