Big Update on Jasprit Bumrah’s Availability for SL Series

The Indian team is all set to play a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka from June 15, 2026. This will be a very important series for Team India if they want to keep their hopes alive of reaching the World Test Championship Final.

Winning in Sri Lanka is never easy, and India will need all their best bowlers fit and ready for the challenge. Before the start of this crucial series, Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness had become a major concern for captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir. India’s pace spearhead was reportedly not at 100 percent fitness, and both the team management and selectors were keeping a close watch on his recovery after announcing the squad.

Now, there is good news for Indian cricket fans. According to PTI correspondent Kushan Sarkar, Jasprit Bumrah has passed his fitness test at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (formerly NCA). Meanwhile, Times of India reporter Sahil Malhotra has also reported that Bumrah has resumed bowling practice at the Centre of Excellence.

Earlier, there were speculations that Bumrah could miss the first Test because of his fitness concerns. However, the latest reports suggest that India’s premier fast bowler is likely to be available for both Test matches. If that happens, it will be a massive boost for Gill and his team.

India are currently placed fifth in the World Test Championship standings, and a clean sweep against Sri Lanka could play a crucial role in keeping their qualification hopes alive. For that, the team needs Bumrah leading the pace attack. He has the ability to change the course of a match on his own, and his return to full fitness gives India a significant advantage heading into the series.

It will also be interesting to see how the rest of the bowling attack, including Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar, supports Bumrah. However, the bigger challenge could be India’s batting. On Sri Lankan pitches, where spin is expected to play a major role, the Indian batters’ ability to handle quality spin bowling will be tested.
