The water level of Ganga river in Patna is rising rapidly and the water at Gandhighat has reached above the danger mark. In view of the danger of possible floods, all DMs and SPs of Bihar have been instructed to remain alert.
Patna: The flood situation in Bihar is becoming increasingly serious. The rising water level of river Ganga in the capital Patna has increased the concern. According to the report of the Water Resources Department, the water of Ganga at Gandhighat increased by 10 centimeters in just four hours. In view of this, the administration has been instructed to remain completely alert.
Water reached above danger mark at Gandhighat
The water level of Ganga at Gandhighat was recorded at 50.53 meters at 10 am on Saturday. This is about one centimeter above the highest flood level (HFL) of the river at 50.52 metres. According to the department’s estimate, the water level may rise to 50.62 meters by 8 am on Sunday.
The effect of rising water level can be seen more in Diara and river areas of Patna. A continuous increase in the water level of Ganga is being recorded at other ghats of the city also.
Ganga water level rising in many areas
The water level of Ganga at Digha Ghat in Patna was recorded at 51.77 meters. The water level was recorded at 43.37 meters in Hathidah, 39.58 meters in Munger, 34.16 meters in Bhagalpur and 32.31 meters in Kahalgaon. From these figures, the increasing pressure in the river can be estimated.
Alert given to all DMs and SPs
In view of the possible danger of floods, the Water Resources Department has directed the District Magistrates (DM) and Superintendents of Police (SP) of all the districts of the state to remain alert. Officials have been asked to keep a constant vigil in sensitive areas and be prepared to deal with any emergency.
Special attention on Diara areas
The administration has been advised to take extra precautions in the river flow area and especially in Diara areas. Families living in the river side of the embankment have been asked to provide timely information and prepare to be evacuated to safe places if needed. Besides, instructions have been given to the district level teams formed to deal with floods to patrol continuously.
