Bihar government’s explosive announcement, 3 big good news for farmers
Patna. In Patna on Tuesday, a delegation led by Bihar Sugar Mills Association (BSMA) Secretary Naresh Bhatt met Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. During this, there was a detailed discussion regarding the problems related to the sugarcane growers of the state and a memorandum was also submitted. In the meeting, three major problems of farmers were specifically discussed – availability of fertilizer, crop condition and waterlogging.
25 lakh farmers hope for relief
The delegation said that about 25 lakh farmers in Bihar are involved in sugarcane farming and about 10 sugar mills are operating in the state. According to estimates, sugarcane is cultivated in 26 lakh hectare area in the state, which is the main basis of livelihood of the farmers. At present, an important phase of crop development is going on, in which adequate availability of urea is very important. Farmers feared that due to urea deficiency, crop leaves may turn yellow and production may be affected.
Government’s big statement regarding urea
Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha clarified that there is no shortage of fertilizers in the state. He directed the Agriculture Department officials to provide urea to sugar mill areas and sugarcane producing farmers on priority basis. The minister advised farmers to use fertilizers only after soil testing and to promote the use of organic and natural fertilizers along with chemical fertilizers.
Indications for action on the problem of waterlogging
The delegation also raised the problem of waterlogging in the fields, which is affecting the sugarcane crop in many areas. On this, the Minister said that the drainage system will be improved in coordination with the Minor Water Resources Department. He also directed to call a joint meeting of Agriculture, Cooperation and Minor Water Resources Department, so that a permanent solution to this problem can be found.
Government’s focus: Solution to farmers’ problems
The Agriculture Minister clearly said that solving the problems of farmers is the priority of the government. Challenges like fertilizer supply and waterlogging will be worked on rapidly. The BSMA delegation welcomed the government’s response and described it as a positive step in the interest of farmers.
