Bihar government’s gift, 2 big good news for farmers
Patna. Bihar government has taken a big step to increase the income of farmers and give a new direction to aquaculture. Now farmers of the state will be able to do pearl and shrimp farming along with traditional fish farming. The government believes that adopting different types of aquatic farming in the same reservoir will increase the earnings of farmers and will also enable them to face the challenges of climate change in a better way.
Facility of grant up to 60 percent
The government has decided to provide up to 60 percent subsidy to the beneficiaries to promote pearl farming. Eligible farmers will be selected through online application process. After the applications are invited, interested farmers will be able to apply as per their eligibility on the departmental portal.
Target of pearl farming in 50 acres area
The state government has set a target to start pearl farming in about 100 units, i.e. about 50 acres of area, this year. It is estimated that about 1.20 lakh pearls can be produced under this scheme. If this scheme is successful, its scope can be further expanded in the coming years.
Focus on increasing farmers’ income
The objective of the government is not limited to fish production only, but also to provide new sources of additional income to the farmers. Adoption of fish, pearl and shrimp farming together will lead to better utilization of water resources and will provide an opportunity to farmers to earn multiple types of income from the same pond.
