IMD Weather Live: Alert of storm and heavy rain at the speed of 85 KM in 18 states of the country; Danger of landslides increased in the mountains
The South-West Monsoon has now become completely aggressive and active across the country, due to which the sequence of devastation and disaster is continuously increasing in many states. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a very serious warning (Red and Orange Alert) for today (July 10, 2026) regarding heavy to extremely heavy rain, strong thunderstorm and hailstorm in 18 states of the country including Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh (UP). According to meteorologists, during this period the wind speed at some affected places can reach devastating levels of 80 to 85 kilometers per hour. In view of the seriousness of the situation, the administration and IMD have made an emotional appeal to the general public to completely avoid non-essential and unnecessary travels and strictly follow the official guidelines related to the weather. Heavy for North India in next 48 hours; Fear of waterlogging and falling of trees: The Meteorological Department says that the monsoon rains may become more violent and intense during the next 48 hours in the plains and hilly parts of North India. Affected areas: There is a possibility of torrential rains and thunderstorms with lightning in many areas of Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Disaster in urban areas: Due to strong winds, incidents of falling of big trees and electric poles can be seen at many places. Along with this, traffic can be completely disrupted due to heavy waterlogging in major cities. Alert of heavy rain and thunderstorm issued in these 18 states The 18 states which IMD has kept in the special monitoring and alert list are as follows: Hail and lightning havoc: The Meteorological Department has warned that there is a serious danger of lightning along with thunder in many states of Eastern India (Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal). During bad weather, people have been asked to stay away from open fields, water bodies, tall trees and transformers. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of large hailstorm falling in some states. ‘Orange alert’ and strict prohibition for fishermen in the hilly states. Mountains collapsing like cards: Due to continuous torrential rains in the Himalayan states (especially Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh), landslides, falling of rocks and sudden unprecedented rise in the water level of rivers and streams are being recorded. Tourists and local residents visiting hilly areas have been strictly advised not to go towards the mountains. Restrictions on access to sea: A special advisory has been issued for people living in coastal areas and seashore as well as fishermen. In view of the bad weather and high storm waves in the sea, fishermen have been instructed not to venture into the deep sea until further orders. Why did monsoon suddenly become so aggressive? Understand the technical reason: According to meteorologists, at present a very strong low pressure area is formed over the atmosphere of north-west Madhya Pradesh and adjacent south-west Uttar Pradesh. Along with this, the main trough of monsoon extends from north-west Rajasthan to north-east Bay of Bengal. Due to the combination of these two powerful weather systems, a huge amount of moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal is reaching the plains of India, which is the main reason for this heavy rain and strong cyclonic winds. IMD’s special vigil at state-wise district level: On July 10, round-the-clock surveillance is being maintained across all borders of Delhi and almost all districts of Uttar Pradesh (especially Western and Central UP). The administration has put NDRF and SDRF teams on alert mode for relief and rescue operations.
