Political turmoil has intensified in the state regarding Bihar Legislative Council elections. Janata Dal United (JDU)’s powerful MLA Anant Singh has made a big announcement regarding the elections. He clarified that he will support Dr. Anuj Singh in the MLC elections.
Bihar MLC Election 2026: Political activities have intensified regarding the upcoming Legislative Council elections in Bihar. Meanwhile, a statement by Janata Dal United (JDU) MLA Anant Singh has sparked a new discussion within the party and in the politics of the state. Anant Singh has clarified that he will support Dr. Anuj Singh in the MLC elections and not JDU’s current Legislative Council member and prominent party leader Neeraj Kumar.
This announcement of Anant Singh is being considered important from the point of view of the upcoming elections. Especially because he has claimed that his supporters present in the assembly constituencies under his influence can also vote and campaign in favor of Dr. Anuj Singh.
Whom did Anant Singh announce his support to?
Anant Singh said that he stands with only those people who live with him. Citing this political equation, he talked about supporting Dr. Anuj Singh. According to him, his supporters will be active in favor of Anuj Singh in 26 assembly constituencies of Bihar. Anant Singh also told that Dr. Anuj Singh is preparing to contest against Neeraj Kumar in the upcoming Legislative Council elections.
However, it is not yet clear on which political party’s ticket Anuj Singh will contest the elections. A final announcement from his side regarding party or election strategy is awaited.
Direct challenge to JDU’s Neeraj Kumar
Neeraj Kumar is currently a Legislative Council member from Patna Graduate constituency. He has won the elections from this seat thrice and there is a possibility of JDU fielding him as its candidate in the upcoming elections also. It has come to light that its formal announcement will be made soon by the party. In such a situation, if Anuj Singh contests against Neeraj Kumar and Anant Singh supports him, then the contest can be very interesting politically.
However, the equation of MLC elections is different from that of Assembly elections. Here voter groups, local political networks and personal influence also play an important role. Therefore, the real electoral impact of a leader’s support will become apparent only during voting.
Are differences increasing within JDU?
After Anant Singh’s statement, the question has started being raised in the politics of Bihar whether everything is going well within JDU. Especially when his support seems to be going to some other contender instead of the party’s declared or probable candidate Neeraj Kumar. However, it would be premature to conclude on the basis of this statement alone there is widespread discontent in JDU or any major internal crisis.
It is also possible that Anant Singh’s stance is related to local political equations or personal relationships. At present, no major official step or action has been taken by the party on this incident.
