Bihar MLC Election 2026: Congress has declared the names of its five candidates for the elections to be held on October 23 for the eight seats of Bihar Legislative Council. The party has fielded candidates from two teacher and three graduate constituencies. After this announcement by Congress, there will be a direct contest with its ally Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on three graduate seats. The tenure of the current members on these eight seats is ending on November 16.
In the list released by Congress, former state president Madan Mohan Jha has once again been fielded from Darbhanga teacher seat. Sanjay Yadav has got the ticket from Patna teacher seat. At present, RJD has not declared candidates against Congress on these two seats. On the other hand, Congress candidates will face RJD candidates on Kosi Graduate, Darbhanga Graduate and Patna Graduate seats.

RJD had announced candidates for six seats in September and had said that the decision on two seats would be taken later. In the current situation, there is no direct contest between Congress and RJD regarding candidates for Darbhanga teacher and Patna teacher seats.
When will Bihar MLC elections be held?
Voting for eight seats of Bihar Legislative Council will be held on 23 October 2026. These include four graduate and four teacher constituencies. Counting of votes will take place on October 27. According to the Election Commission's schedule, the last date for nomination is October 6 and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is October 9.
