The BJP suffered a major setback in the Datia assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh. BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari was defeated, while Congress’s Ghanshyam Singh won by a margin of over 6,000 votes.
BJP candidate Ashutosh Tiwari’s first statement after losing the Datia assembly by-election has come to light. Tiwari reached the counting centre and admitted his defeat, telling the media, “This is a mandate, and I accept the people’s order with folded hands. The reasons for the defeat will be reviewed.”
According to Election Commission data, Congress’s Ghanshyam Singh won the Datia assembly by-election by securing 66,757 votes. BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari defeated the Congress candidate by 6,016 votes by securing 60,741 votes. Another big update is that Damodar Yadav Mandal of Azad Samajwadi Party (Kanshi Ram) has also got 22,527 votes in Datia.
Congress’s Ghanshyam Singh got 66,726 EVM votes and 31 postal votes, giving a total of 66,757 votes, which is 42.39 percent. BJP’s Ashutosh Tiwari got 60,701 EVM votes and 40 postal votes, giving a total of 60,741 votes, which is 38.57 percent. Damodar Yadav Mandal of Azad Samajwadi Party (Kanshi Ram) came in third place. He got 22,515 EVM votes and 12 postal votes. He got a total of 22,527 votes, which was 14.3 percent of the votes.
