BJP crosses 160: Will Mamata’s rule end in Bengal? The trends shocked the entire country

New Delhi/Kolkata: The day of results of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 has come which has increased the heartbeats of the entire country. Counting of votes is going on in 293 out of 294 seats in the state and the initial trends have taken the political heat of Bengal to the seventh sky. This time the battle seems to be a ‘see-and-see’ between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). There are tight security arrangements outside the counting centers and the figures coming out as soon as the EVMs are opened are shocking.

BJP’s big jump in trends, problem stuck in Bhawanipur

According to early trends, BJP has crossed the magic majority mark (148) and is leading on 160 seats, while Mamata Banerjee’s TMC is leading on 117 seats. Most eyes are on the high-profile Bhawanipur seat. According to the latest update, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is lagging behind her rival BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. This news remains a matter of concern for TMC supporters, because Bhawanipur has been considered an impenetrable fort of Mamata Banerjee.

Apart from Bhawanipur, veterans like Firhad Hakim from Kolkata Port, Madan Mitra from Kamarhati and Arup Biswas from Tollygunge are also facing tough competition in the initial phase. Suvendu Adhikari from BJP has created a stir in Bengal politics by taking an early lead. There is a ‘neck to neck’ fight going on between TMC and BJP on the seats of North and South 24 Parganas.

Will there be change in Bengal?

148 seats are needed to form government in Bengal. In the current trends, BJP has reached 160, which is giving big signs of ‘change’. However, many rounds are still to be counted and the situation may change till the final results come. The record voting of more than 92% has made it clear that the public has voted very strongly for one side or the other. By afternoon it will be completely clear whether Didi will have a hat-trick or ‘lotus’ will bloom for the first time in Bengal.
