Samajwadi Party National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government in Uttar Pradesh, stating that the current government has become a crisis for the state and that the state’s problems will only be resolved after a change of power. He alleged that the government has been unfair to students, youth, and daughters and has used brutal police action to suppress protests.
At a press conference held at the Samajwadi Party’s state headquarters, Akhilesh Yadav stated that the BJP government and its ministers had reached an agreement with the protesting students, assuring them that no cases would be filed against them or they would be harassed. However, the students are now being harassed, raising serious questions about the government’s credibility. He said that in a democracy, if the government fails to fulfill its promises, public trust is weakened.
Referring to the Fatehpur incident, the SP president said that the schoolchildren there had only demanded basic amenities like drinking water and fans in the classrooms. When their demands were met, there is no justification for harassing the children and their families. He announced that Samajwadi Party MLAs would meet with the affected students and their families to provide all possible assistance and ensure that no injustice is tolerated.
Akhilesh Yadav said that the government, which claims to have made the state’s economy a trillion dollar economy, should first provide electricity, water, fans, and other basic amenities in government schools. He stated that despite grand claims of development, the basic needs of the education system remain unmet.
The former Chief Minister, alleging corruption and the growing influence of land mafias in the state, said that many important government ponds and public lands built before 2017 have been encroached upon. He alleged that land mafias are receiving political patronage and are misusing government resources.
He also questioned various expressway projects in the state, alleging widespread corruption in their construction. He stated that serious complaints have surfaced regarding the quality of construction in many projects, and that roads in some locations have been damaged shortly after inauguration. He cited this as an example of the lack of transparency and quality in government work.
Akhilesh Yadav, referring to the Ayodhya-related issues, also leveled serious allegations against the government, stating that it is the government’s responsibility to maintain transparency even in matters of religious faith. He also cited the police action against students and youth in Delhi, stating that suppressing democratic movements is not appropriate.
He also advised administrative officials to discharge their duties impartially. According to him, governments change, so officials should not act under political pressure and should make impartial decisions in accordance with the law.
Regarding the issue of paper leaks, the SP chief alleged that the future of youth is constantly being affected and that transparency in the examination system is essential. He said that the government should take effective steps to restore youth confidence.
In response to a question, Akhilesh Yadav said that if the Samajwadi Party forms the government in the state, artists who have made significant contributions in the fields of art, literature, and culture will be honored. He stated that during the Samajwadi Party government’s tenure, the “Yash Bharti Samman” was awarded to individuals who made outstanding contributions in various fields, and that the tradition of encouraging talent will continue in the future.
During the press conference, Akhilesh Yadav stated that in a democratic system, solving public problems, providing transparent governance, improving the education system, providing employment to youth, and impartially enforcing the law should be the government’s priorities. He asserted that the Samajwadi Party will continue to raise issues related to the interests of the people of the state and will continue to fight for public interest issues.
