Recently, Annamalai had put forward a different stand from the Central Government on the three language issue. In May he had urged the Union Education Ministry to withdraw the notification making three languages compulsory for class nine students. Annamalai urged the ministry to stick to its earlier commitment of introducing three languages (two of which would be Indian languages) from the academic year 2029-2030. Let us tell you that CBSE issued a notification to all affiliated schools on May 15, 2026, announcing the introduction of a third compulsory language for class nine students from the current academic year, which is much earlier than the previously scheduled deadline for implementation from the session 2029-2030. Annamalai said that in April 2026, when CBSE announced that three languages would be compulsory for class VI students. In which two should be the native languages of India, they also welcomed this decision.
