BJP MLA Raju Singh sentenced to 4 years in Harsh firing case, fined Rs 25 lakh

Tezzbuzz Desk Raju Kumar Singh, BJP MLA from Sahibganj, Bihar, has been sentenced to 4 years imprisonment by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court in the case of culpable homicide. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 25 lakh on him.

This case is related to the firing at a party on New Year’s Eve in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, in which female doctor Archana Gupta was killed.

The court had already declared him guilty

The court of Special Judge Vishal Gogane had convicted Raju Kumar Singh on June 6. The court accepted that Dr. Archana Gupta had died due to the bullet fired during the firing. After this, the final verdict on the punishment was announced on Saturday.

Arguments given in court

Before the sentencing, the accused MLA argued in the court that the incident happened due to “lack of scientific knowledge” and he had no idea of ​​the parabolic trajectory of the bullet. The defense called it a case of negligence and demanded lesser punishment or probation.

The lawyers also said that there was no premeditated intention in the incident and the behavior of the accused showed remorse.

Court did not accept the demand for probation

The court rejected the petition for release on probation and said that this matter is of serious nature. The court ordered to immediately send the accused to judicial custody, as he was out on bail since February 2019.

In this case, MLA’s wife Renu Singh and two other people were acquitted due to lack of evidence.

The incident took place during a party in Vasant Kunj, where Dr Archana Gupta died after allegedly being hit by a bullet during firing. Considering it as culpable homicide, the court sentenced him under Section 304 (II) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act.

There is a maximum punishment of up to 10 years for this crime. After the court’s decision, the MLA has been sent to judicial custody.
