BJP sidelined Pooja Pal in the new Yogi cabinet, what is the reason?

After the recent cabinet expansion of Yogi government in the politics of Uttar Pradesh, new discussions have started regarding MLA Pooja Pal. Pooja Pal, who was considered close to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after being expelled from the Samajwadi Party, was expected to be made a minister but at the last moment her name was dropped from the list. After this, the discussion intensified in the political circles that BJP has sidelined him for the time being.

Pooja Pal has been giving statements in support of BJP and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for a long time. After voting in favor of BJP in the Rajya Sabha elections, speculations about his joining the party and getting important responsibility in the government had intensified.

Six new ministers were to be sworn in in the cabinet expansion held on May 10. In political circles, Pooja Pal’s name was considered among the strongest contenders. According to sources, his name was removed at the last moment. After this, many discussions started regarding internal equations and political strategy of BJP. However, Pooja Pal reacted calmly to this entire matter. He said that he had no desire to become a minister and serving the public was the biggest priority for him.

Why did BJP sideline Pooja Pal?

According to BJP sources, keeping in mind the assembly elections 2027, the party gave utmost importance to caste balance in the cabinet expansion. Special attention was given to the representation of backward classes and Dalit communities. Due to this social and political balance, many names were reconsidered at the last moment and Pooja Pal’s name was left out of the list.

Sources say that some senior BJP leaders had objected to making leaders from other parties direct ministers. There were several rounds of discussions regarding this at the organization and government level. Internal opposition and tussle is also being considered a major reason for Pooja Pal not becoming a minister.

Pooja Pal is the MLA from Chail assembly seat of Kaushambi district. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya also comes from this district. Political experts believe that since there was already a Deputy CM from the same district, the party took caution in appointing a new minister. It was argued within the party that Kaushambi already had a large representation in the government. This was the reason why Pooja Pal’s name could not be included in the final list.
