BJP’s dominance in Manjalpur continues, Satish Patel ahead by a large margin

Counting of votes has begun for the Manjalpur assembly by-election in Gujarat. A total of 19 rounds of counting are scheduled. BJP candidate Satish Patel has been leading in this seat since the beginning. In the by-election to be held for the Manjalpur seat in Vadodara district, BJP candidate Satish Govindbhai Patel is a former councilor of Vadodara Municipal Corporation and Congress candidate Bhikhabhai Rabari is the party’s Gujarat vice-president and former state minister. There is a direct competition between the two.

Voting for the seat took place on July 30 following the death of senior BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Yogesh Patel. Voting in the Manjalpur seat was peaceful. The voter turnout was 37.50 per cent, significantly lower than the 60.15 per cent recorded in the 2022 Gujarat Assembly elections.

According to the Election Commission, a total of 219,494 voters were eligible to vote in the Manjalpur constituency, including 1,634 disabled persons, 1,406 voters aged 85 years and above and 12 centenarians. Ahead of polling day, 107 voters, including 90 senior citizens, cast their votes through the Election Commission’s door-to-door voting facility.
